Local MP commends our fantastic work in the Southend community

On the 1st of July, we invited James Duddridge, MP (Rochford & Southend East) to our Victoria site to show him our work at South Essex Community Hub.

Friday was a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate the services we provide at SECH. We were able to show him our spaces and highlight how we are helping the local community through the support we provide.

Our volunteers also had the chance to speak to James about the charity’s impact on them, giving James insight into the power of volunteering with SECH.

“It was great to have James down to talk to him about the work we volunteers do for the community, ” said Michael Taylor.

We were able to feature our successes, such as receiving the Queen’s Award for voluntary service and our recent establishment of a new Youth service offer, a service the local community has been missing in recent years.

The members at the Youth Hub worked together to create a video presentation for James, welcoming him to the Youth Hub, presenting the activities offered at the youth hub, and talking about how much they love, enjoy, and appreciate the youth’s space Hub provides.

We thank James for taking the time to come and visit us at SECH. Being able to show a local MP the value of our service is a fantastic opportunity.

“We were delighted to invite James to visit our community hub and show all the positive work Sech is doing in our new city.” – said David Preston, Chief Operating Officer.

Summer Holiday Club 2021

Throughout August South Essex Community Hub provided a holiday club for children free of charge.

Our holiday club was based at St. Mary’s primary school, which had a fantastic sports hall for the children to use, a big sports field and use of the school’s kitchen. We felt so honoured and lucky to be able to use the school’s space and the children were very happy that every day they were able to engage in activities.

We had over 200 children attend the club taking part in all kinds of activities over the four weeks. With the help of our amazing and dedicated team, we were able to run activities such as arts and crafts, gymnastics, multi sports, slip and slide, bouncy castles, BBQ’s and much more.

South Essex Community Hub also provided fun days out to Adventure Island, hire of a cinema room to enjoy a film, Priory Parks bouncy castle fun and day trip to LEGOLAND. Parents were delighted and the children felt very lucky to be able to enjoy all these fun activities. In addition over 200 hot meals/packed lunches were provided for the children alongside healthy snacks throughout the day.

The staff and volunteers at SECH felt overjoyed that they were able to play such a vital role in supporting these children. It is likely that if the holiday club didn’t run these children wouldn’t be able to afford all the activities and trips provided.
